What is CAEN Rev.3?
CAEN Rev.3 is Romania's updated national economic activity classification, aligned with NACE Rev.2.1 (Eurostat). It entered into force progressively from 2025 and replaces CAEN Rev.2 for new registrations and statutory updates at ONRC.
Do you need to update?
Existing companies are not automatically required to amend their articles of incorporation solely due to the classification change. However, any amendment of the object of activity triggers the obligation to use Rev.3 codes. Verify your specific situation with a qualified lawyer.
1:1 vs split codes
Most 4-digit codes map 1:1 from Rev.2 to Rev.3 (identical code, minimal description changes). A smaller number of codes were split or merged. Where a code was split, you may need to select the most appropriate Rev.3 equivalent for your actual activity.
