Civil Code Term Calculator
Art. 2551–2556 Codul Civil, deadline computation for Romanian law matters
Enter term parameters
Art. 2553: the start date (dies a quo) is excluded from the count.
If the deadline falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or Romanian public holiday, it is carried forward to the next working day.
Art. 2551 – Starting point
The term begins on the day following the event or act that triggers it (dies a quo excluded). Enter that triggering date as the start date.
Art. 2552 – Corresponding-day rule
For month and year terms, the deadline falls on the same day of the month as the triggering date. If the target month has fewer days, the last day of that month applies.
Art. 2553 – Free days (zile libere)
When a term is expressed in free days, neither the first nor the last day of the term is counted. The calculator handles the dies a quo exclusion; "free days" is a label for how the term is expressed in the legal provision.
Art. 2554 – Carry-forward (prorogare)
If the last day of the term is a Saturday, Sunday, legal holiday, or any other non-working day, the term extends to the first following working day.
